Increase in Calls to Homeless Camps Concern CA Firefighters

Sacramento officials say cold weather will drive up the number of calls to homeless encampments, saying fires can quickly grow and threaten structures.

Sacramento firefighters are seeing an uptick in calls at homeless encampments and say the cold weather will drive up the numbers of responses.

“Every winter we see a change in our calls and right now we are seeing more calls from our transient population,” Sacramento Fire Department spokesman Chris Vestal told CBS13.com.

In a recent social media post by the firefighter's union, one unit responded to multiple fires at a single encampments in 48 hours.
