They also ran to get Tom O'Shea, a retired FDNY firefighter, who lives across the street.

They went from playing catch in their backyard to being the Brentwood neighborhood heroes.

After spotting something, the boys climbed onto playground equipment for a better look. It wasn't the sunset after all. It was fire coming from a neighbor's roof

The boys ran to their parents who called 9-1-1. Then, they ran next door to alert residents to the fire, telling them to leave immediately.

The couple and their granddaughter had no clue the house was on fire.

Then, they headed across the street to another neighbor, Tom O'Shea, a retired FDNY firefighter.

O'Shea climbed a ladder and extinguished the attic fan fire. He said it was good he had experience in the matter as it could have been much worse.

He also praised Jack Talley and his brother for being observant and acting.
