A Pennsylvania community is mourning the loss of a veteran EMS provider.
Cottage Rescue and EMS Paramedic Ed (Ned) Hayes, 71, was stricken while treating a patient in an ambulance, according to a statement from the department.
Just a few blocks from the hospital, he fell ill. He died a few hours later with his family with him, they wrote.
"Hayes was best known for his excellent skills, professionalism and humor. His loss will be felt by many, especially those patients and the community he served," they said on the company's Facebook page.
He and his wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last month, according to his obituary.
He has been a medic for 35 years.
