An ambulance service is one unit down after a patient took it for a joy ride and damaged it.
Tulsa Police said a patient at Ascension Saint John Hospital didn't make it out of the parking garage, KOTV reported.
The thief turned on the lights and siren and drove through the parking deck. On the way, it hit low-hanging signs damaging the light bar.
Oologah-Talala Ambulance Director Brand Pond explained: "From what we can tell the light bar is going to have to be replaced, there's a big dent on the front here."
"We're just grateful he didn't drive in the street and cause any other damage to cars or people and that no one was hurt."
She told reporters that the crew left the ambulance running while they were inside the hospital with a patient.
Pond said leaving the unit running is an industry standard to keep the compartments air conditioned and equipment charged.
"You run the risk of turning it off and maybe it doesn't start, ya know you get another call, you just need to be ready to go."
The joy ride ended with the patient was taken into custody by hospital security and staff.
Pond said the service will continue to respond to calls as it has other ambulances.
