THE FIRE APPARATUS MANUFACTURERS’ ASSOCIATION (FAMA) has awarded its 2011 Phillip L. Turner Fire Protection Scholarship to University of Maryland College Park student Chad Lannon. A sophomore majoring in fire protection engineering, Lannon received a $5,000 scholarship in recognition of academic achievement and commitment to the fire service. The scholarship is sponsored this year by AKRON BRASS CO. Lannon is a Baltimore County firefighter/first responder at the Bowley’s Quarters Volunteer Station.

ROSENBAUER has signed a contract with Brazil’s state-owned airport operator Infraero Aeroportos to supply 80 Panther aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) 6x6 crash trucks. The apparatus will be manufactured at the Rosenbauer Minnesota and Rosenbauer Motors divisions in Wyoming, MN, with the firefighting systems supplied from the main plant in Leonding, Austria. The vehicles are to be supplied and commissioned in several stages by January 2014.

5.11 TACTICAL founder and CEO Dan Costa is handing over day-to-day leadership to Tom Davin, chairman of the board. Costa founded 5.11 in 2001 and sold controlling interest to TA Associates, a private-equity group, in 2007.

Davin was a U.S. Marine Corps infantry officer, serving in command assignments before being selected to become an infantry tactics instructor. He later earned an MBA at the Harvard Business School and was CEO of Panda Restaurant Group (Panda Express).

PELICAN PRODUCTS has named Michael Brunskill director of customer service. Before joining Pelican, Brunskill held customer-care management positions at Cardinal Health (now CareFusion) and Airtouch Cellular (now Verizon Wireless). Most recently, he was vice president of customer operations for Source Refrigeration. Brunskill holds a bachelor of business administration degree from Cal State Fullerton and professional certifications in management, operations and lean manufacturing.

E-ONE has appointed Fire Line Equipment in Lancaster County, PA, as its dealer for central Pennsylvania. Fire Line’s 8,000-square-foot facility offers on-site and mobile service in support of new and used apparatus sales.

STREAMLIGHT INC. has donated $109,000 to the not-for-profit Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). To date, Streamlight has donated nearly $230,000 to BCRF from sales of its “pink” flashlight products, designed to raise awareness of the disease.

“Breast cancer has such a devastating impact on so many American women and their families, and Streamlight is proud to do its part to help raise money for a cure,” said Loring Grove, Streamlight’s director of marketing and a breast cancer survivor.

PURVIS SYSTEMS INC. has been awarded a contract with the District of Columbia to install the PURVIS Fire Station Alerting System (PURVIS FSAS) in the Public Safety Command Center (PSCC), Unified Communication Center (UCC), all 33 fire stations, the fireboat and the radio shop. The FSAS provides the district with an Internet Protocol (IP)-based system that provides visual and audible incident alerts and two-way voice communications between dispatchers and fire and EMS personnel.

EARTHCLEAN CORP. has named JoAnn Tyler sales executive for the Minnesota region. Tyler reports to Scott Bocklund, EarthClean president. Before joining EarthClean, Tyler was a sales representative in Minnesota and western Wisconsin for a fire equipment distributor. She also is a firefighter with the Chanhassen, MN, Fire Department. She holds Minnesota fire service certification, a first responder certification from the Minnesota EMS Regulatory Board and a hazmat specialist certification. She has completed fire protection courses at Hennepin Technical College and undergraduate studies at Normandale Community College in Bloomington, MN.

HANDHELD US has hired two vertical sale managers, Steve Heric and Daniel Adams, to focus on growing the company’s presence and sales in current markets as well as expanding into new markets.

Heric, most recently with DRS Technologies, brings extensive expertise in the area of rugged notebook and tablets. He also has worked for Itronix and Walkabout Computers. Adams joined Handheld from Juniper Systems, bringing experience in the ultra-rugged computing space with emphasis on military, mining and public safety applications. He has a degree in communications from Utah State University.
