When a triumphant warrior returned to Rome during the glory days of the Roman Empire they were treated to their equivalent of a Roman tickertape parade. They rode proudly through the city in their battle chariot. The spoils of war were paraded through the streets with them. This could range from gold to jewels to a vast array of captured enemy soldiers.
Sometimes the warrior's children rode with him. As his chariot moved through the adoring throngs of citizens, a slave stood behind the warrior. That slave held a laurel wreath over the head of the warrior and whispered in their ear, "
