Following the annual ceremonies to remember those killed in the devastating 1906 San Francisco earthquake, the San Francisco Fire Department kicked off it's year-long 150th anniversary celebration.
A number of dignitaries, including Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White, Mayor Edwin Lee, Honorable Willie Brown, Local 798 President Tom O'Connor spoke to a crowd gathered at Union Square.
Firefighters dressed in red top raised a 65-foot wooden ladder and a firefighter climbed to the top.
Historic fire apparatus, including the department's first pumper were on display.
