LITTLETON, Colo. --
A person was found dead after firefighters quickly knocked out a fire that broke out in the back of Ken Caryl home early Wednesday morning.
The victim's identity has not been released. The victim was the only person living in the home at the time, a spokesman with West Metro Fire said.
A West Metro firefighter received a laceration to his head while trying to enter the home through the front door, said West Metro Fire Asst. Fire Chief Scott Rogers. Rogers said the firefighter may have fallen.
7NEWS saw the firefighter in the back of an ambulance, with a bandage on his head. He has been transported to a hospital with minor injuries, Rogers said.
West Metro firefighters were called to the burning home at 18 Canyon Cedar just before 6 a.m. Wednesday. Several 911 callers reported that flames were shooting out of the back windows, Rogers said.
Firefighters talking over their radios said the back half of the home was engulfed in flames when they arrived at the scene.
Crews are trying to determine the cause of the fire, which appeared to have started in a back bedroom, Rogers said. The fire does not appear to be suspicious, but the result of an accident.
At least five fire trucks and two ambulances were parked outside the home.
The flames appeared to be out within 10 minutes, but smoke was still visible from the back of the house an hour later.
A dog was in the home and was rescued unharmed. That dog is now staying at a neighbor's house, Rogers said.
The coroner is not expected to release the victim's name until Thursday.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has taken over the investigation because it involves a death.
