PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. --
On Jan. 11, Peachtree City police arrested firefighter Kevin McMullen, 32, on a drunken driving charge.
McMullen, a graduate of the 2007 firefighter class and rookie of the year in 2008, is the son of former City Manager Bernard McMullen.
According to police reports obtained by CBS Atlanta News, McMullen arrived for his shift intoxicated. The report indicates co-workers could smell alcohol on McMullen’s breath. They called 911 and dispatch alerted the Fire Chief J. O’ Conner.
During field sobriety tests, police indicated McMullen was swaying. Breath tests concluded he had a blood alcohol content of of 0.136 and 0.135 percent. The legal limit is 0.08.
“Coming to work under the influence is grounds for termination,” said Peachtree City spokeswoman Betsy Tyler. Tyler would not comment specifically on McMullen, only to say they have strict policies for employees who use alcohol at work.
McMullen is on administrative leave. Tyler said McMullen could face disciplinary action on Monday.
“This is a personnel issue, and we want to give at least 10 days for an employee to appeal before we make a statement,” said Tyler.
