SACRAMENTO, Calif. --

Mayday calls from a person at the scene of a home explosion in Sacramento's Oak Park neighborhood are heard in dispatch recordings released Tuesday.

Fire officials also can be heard confirming gas was shut off at the meter after responding to a report of an odor of gas outside.

"Let's go ahead and drop a line right now because we are unable to get access. We are trying to wait for keys from the homeowner. We have the gas shut off, power shut off," someone is heard in the recordings.

The explosion, which occurred July 5, sent debris flying from the vacant home at 3820 25th Ave. Four firefighters were injured in the incident.

"Mayday, mayday, we've got an explosion," someone at the scene is heard yelling to dispatchers.

Lloyd Ogan, acting Sacramento fire chief, said two of the injured firefighters entered the home two or three seconds before the explosion occurred.

"We have an explosion on scene, full response, with three medics," someone is heard saying in the recordings.

Seconds after that report, dispatchers heard this:

"Everybody's out. Everybody's out of the house."

The four firefighters who were injured in the blast: Jeff Coats, 31, Mike Feyh, 45, Scott Mckinney, 40, and David Storck, 33, have since been released from the UC Davis Medical Center.

Investigators believe someone deliberately meant to blow up the house.

"It's disturbing. I don't know what the person or persons responsible were attempting to accomplish. The reality is it attempted to accomplish the death of four of our firefighters," Sacramento Fire spokesman Johnathan Burgess said.

Fire officials say they are actively working to solve the mystery and arrest someone in connection with the blast.

Meanwhile, a separate accident review investigation is underway to determine if any mistakes were made at the scene.

However, fire officials said initially, it appears as though the firefighters were taking proper precautions leading up to this incident.
