AMES, Iowa --
An Ames man ran into his burning home Wednesday morning to try and put out a fire.
Firefighters said Blair Beohn rushed home after learning of the fire at 2520 Hunt St. He grabbed a fire extinguisher to try and put out the flames before fire crews arrived.
"He did what we really don't recommend. He went back in actually a couple times for some possessions and to check on the fire and roommates. We do strongly recommend everyone to get out and call 911," said Scott Siberski, of Ames Fire Department.
Boehn was checked out by paramedics at the scene for smoke inhalation. No one else was injured.
Firefighters believe the cause of the fire may be electrical, but they are continuing the investigation.
