CARROLLTON, Ga. --

State fire officials say a six-year-old girl died in an Atlanta hospital less than 12 hours after being burned over 80 percent of her body after her apartment caught fire.

Glenn Allen, spokesman for the Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner's office, says the fire happened at Lake View Apartments after 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

Allen says families in three other units in the apartment building were displaced from the blaze.

He says the exact cause of the fire has not been determined but officials believe one of the two children in the apartment may have been playing with a lighter or matches.

The girl was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital's burn unit. Allen says a 5-year-old boy in the apartment was treated and released from another hospital.

Allen says no adults were present in the apartment at the time of the fire.
