Wisconsin Firefighter Burned in Oxygen Tank Explosion at Station

A firefighter was injured after an oxygen tank exploded early Thursday morning at the Holmen Fire Department.

A firefighter is injured after an oxygen tank exploded early Thursday morning at the Holmen Fire Department.

La Crosse County Dispatch says the explosion was reported at 6:41am at the fire department at 710 South Main Street in Holmen. Holmen's assistant fire chief tells NewsChannel 8 a firefighter was filling the oxygen tank when there was a spark, which ignited the tank.

The firefighter was taken to a La Crosse hospital with burns on their hands and face, but according to Tri-State Ambulance those injuries are non-life-threatening. The firefighter's name has not been released.

NewsChannel 8's crew at the scene says the explosion blew out at least one window and damaged a sheet metal wall.
