Pittsburgh Explosion Levels Houses

It is not known if anyone was injured or what caused the explosion.

PITTSBURGH --

Emergency crews were called to the North Side Friday morning for reports of an explosion and a fire.

Channel 11 has learned that some type of explosion leveled two row homes along Lovitt Street around 10:30 a.m.

Witnesses at the scene said several windows in surrounding buildings and homes were shattered and also reported a smell of natural gas.

A man living on Peralta Street told Channel 11 that the explosion blew his doors open. A woman who lives on Blossom Way told Channel 11 she was sitting in her living room and heard a big boom. She said she saw a little bit of smoke in the alley way, but not a lot.

It is not known if anyone was injured or what caused the explosion.
