WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Five firefighters were taken to local hospitals for injuries they received in a fire in Chinatown Tuesday morning. The fire was reported shortly after 7:00am in the 1000 block of F Street N.W.

First arriving units reported heavy smoke pouring from the second floor, and fire was seen coming through the roof. Firefighters made entry to the second floor, which a fire department spokesman said was apparently vacant.

The blaze was extinguished within 45 minutes and there were no civilians injured. None of the firefighters taken to the hospital were believed to be suffering any life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined, and the estimate of damages in the fire are still being calculated. Fire officials said a souvenir shop on the first floor of the building sustained some water damage but no fire damage.
