INDIANAPOLIS --
The showroom of an east-side car dealership was a total loss after a fire broke out Saturday evening, fire officials said.
The 2-alarm fire started in the showroom at the Tom Wood Pontiac Buick GMC dealership near Interstate 465 and Washington Street just before 7 p.m., said Indianapolis Fire Department Capt. Gregg Harris.
When [firefighters] made forced entry into the showroom, it was fully charged with smoke, Harris said. There are six cars in the showroom, so theres going to be a tremendous loss at this establishment.
Some vehicles in the body shop and repair area were also damaged, Harris said. The damage is estimated at $1.5 million.
The dealership was closed at the time and no injuries were reported.
A manager at the dealership told fire investigators that he had just left the building minutes before the fire broke out.
Harris said the cause and origin of the fire were under investigation Saturday night.
