Encouraging news this afternoon from the Washington Hospital Center Intensive Care Burn Unit.

Prince George's County Firefighter Tim Ormerod had his intubation tube removed. Doctors performed the procedure and then allowed his fiancee and family members a few moments to talk with him for the first time since his injury occurred.

After exchanging emotional moments with his fiancee, Beth Stevens, he asked if any other firefighters had been injured and expressed a desire to talk with his shift partner.

Firefighter Ormerod sustained critical inhalation burns while battling a 3-alarm fire on Donnell Place in Forestville on Wednesday, May 30, 2007.

Beth Stevens expressed her gratitude for all the prayers and well wishes she and Tim have been receiving. She acknowledged the great comfort generated from the around-the-clock company of family, friends, and co-workers of both her and Tim's.

The cause of the fire on Donnell Place remains under investigation.
