Missouri Fireworks Warehouse Catches Fire

Several crews from surrounding towns are fighting the blaze.

A fireworks warehouse in northern Missouri caught fire Tuesday afternoon.

The fire broke out at Shelton Fireworks on Interstate 35 in Eagleville, which is near the Missouri-Iowa border. Six fire departments from surrounding towns fought the blaze for several hours.

Christy Hancock, of the Eagleville Texaco, said she could see flames and fireworks explosions from about four miles away.

"It looked like the Fourth of July in Eagleville," Hancock said.

She said the firefighters reacted quickly and that the fire did not spread to other buildings. However, KMBC reported that crews had trouble fighting the fire because the explosions made it difficult to get close to the warehouse.

Three customers and four employees were able to escape the building, KMBC reported. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
