Akron firefighters are responding to a two-alarm fire at the Lockheed Martin Airdock at Route 224 and Massillon Road Thursday.

According to NewsChannel5, smoke and flames were seen shooting out of the hangar through the roof and doors. The north end of the hangar is on fire.

Firefighters are having a hard time battling the blaze. The building is so large, their ladders aren't long enough to reach the flames.

About five firefighters were seen on top of hangar trying to get hoses high enough to reach the fire.

The airship factory, called the Airdock, is 1,175 feet long, 325 feet wide and 211 feet high.

This is the second time in less than a year that firefighters have responded to the airdock. In September, a welding spark started the insulation in the building smoldering, and it created a lot of smoke.

This airdock is the original building where the Goodyear blimp was made.

Lockheed Martin Corp. has been in the process of building a high-altitude airship for missile defense.

The Akron landmark has been around for about 77 years.
