Firefighters battled a blaze Saturday at Poway Road near Highway 67, NBC 7/39 reported.
Officials said a full response was issued, including air support, and firefighters were able to quickly knock down the flames.
The area burned in the Cedar Fire three years ago and with gusty winds and dry conditions Saturday fire officials said they weren't taking any chances.
"This is what red flag warnings are all about, this wind condition, weather condition and fuel condition -- that all adds up to challenging fire suppression conditions," said Poway Fire Division Chief Gary MacPherson.
Fire crews from Poway, San Diego and the California Department of Forestry fought back the flames fanned by strong winds.
Eighteen engines, five helicopters and one plane were all on hand for the aggressive attack.
The blaze charred nearly 6 acres. Officials said two people suffered minor injuries.
Some nervous horse trainers, who said they know how fast the flames can spread, moved more than a dozen animals to safety.
There is no word yet on what caused the fire.
