ORLANDO, Fla. --

Firefighters worked to rescue the pilot from a small plane that crashed into Big Sand Lake in Orange County on Monday.

The lake is located just southwest of the intersection of Interstate 4 and Sand Lake Road.

Authorities said the Cessna 180 flipped when it hit the water, but the aircraft's pontoons helped to keep it afloat.

A neighborhood resident called the Fire Department just after the incident.

Officials said the pilot was the only person on board. He suffered minor injuries and was transported to Sand Lake Hospital for treatment.
