DAYTON, Ohio --

Police in Dayton said they have arrested a man accused of setting a garage on fire. Officers made the arrest while firefighters were still working to put out the flames.

The fire started around 1:30 p.m. Friday on Hart Avenue. Officials said within minutes thousands of dollars in property were damaged.

Firefighters said the fire damaged two houses in the 300 block of Hart Ave. District Chief Richard Post said the fire appeared suspicious upon arrival.

Fire officials said weather conditions made the fire more dangerous than normal because of the high winds.

Post said that while firefighters were on the scene an arrest was made in connection with the fire.

According to Post, damage to the garage stands somewhere around $10,00-15,000. He said damage to property at 311 and 315 hart is considered a total loss.

At this time, the name of the person arrested has not been released. Also, no formal charges have been filed.
