BOSTON --

Four college students, two gas workers and a police officer were injured Monday in a house explosion in Easton.

NewsCenter 5's Rhondella Richardson reported that the incident happened at 39 Jenny Lind St. at about 11 a.m., where six Stonehill College students live.

"The entire house had collapsed and was fully involved in flames when we arrived," Easton Police Department Deputy Chief Allen Krajcik said.

Krajcik said that the students were on the second floor of the home when it collapsed, and two residents of the home were already on campus.

Three students were brought to Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, and will be discharged Monday afternoon, according to the school's Web site. The fourth student was admitted to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

A Bay State Gas Company worker and one member of a four-person contracting team were more seriously injured in the explosion. A fire dispatcher said a police officer also was injured.

The cause remained under investigation, but Bay State Gas said that the company was doing work in the area at the time.

"This gas company project has been going on for months now. They have been working in the area without any incidents. They were installing a service to that house when the explosion occurred," Krajcik said.

At least three other homes were damaged in the explosion. National Grid shut off electricity to 110 customers in the area of Seaver Street following the house explosion.
