WESTMORELAND COUNTY, Pa. --

A three-alarm fire broke out late Monday morning in Monessen in the 1200 block of Highland Avenue.

Irma Wasky, 90, and her aide were trapped in the home, police said, but two men were able to kick in the door and rescue them.

"All we wanted to do was get away from the smoke," said Wasky. "The smoke was so dark and grayish black."

Jason Snyder, a volunteer firefighter, was working his maintenance job a few houses down when he saw the smoke.

"I'm calling 911, and they ask if anyone is inside," said Snyder. "I say, 'I don't know, I'm going to look right now.'"

Snyder said he heard screams as he approached the house, so he said he used his Tae Kwon Do skills to kick the door in.

"I came at it and gave it a good healthy kick, and I went in," said Snyder.

A local postal worker was nearby and helped rescue the two women.

Authorities arent sure what caused the blaze at this time.
