A local firefighter is accused of stealing thousands of dollars in bingo money from the fire hall where he worked. 18-year-old firefighter, Fred Mort, is accused of stealing more than $3,000 from the Friedens Fire Department.
Mort was caught stealing after the fire chief installed a video camera inside the fire hall. Fire officials immediately contacted police who pulled Mort and a friend over after the two were spotted driving near the fire station.
Police found marked $50 bills on him and the passenger. Police said Mort admitted to stealing the cash and his friend told police where the money came from.
The fire hall's bingo money started coming up short in January and investigators said they believe Mort was taking money after weekly bingo games.
Mort faces numerous charges including theft.
