A man was rescued from his burning apartment in Baytown late Monday, KPRC Local 2 reported.
The Highlands Fire Department responded to the blaze at the Country Terrace Apartments on Wallisville Road near Wade Road at about 10 p.m.
Neighbors kicked down the door to the man's apartment before firefighters arrived and pulled him to safety.
The man was transported by helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital. He is expected to survive.
The rescuers suffered minor smoke inhalation.
Investigators said the fire started in the man's bedroom and may have been caused by cigarettes. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
