Passer-By Saves 3 Cincinnati Children from Fire

Firefighters said it appeared the fire started in the basement and moved up through the walls.

Four people, including three children, were able to escape a house fire thanks to a stranger, police said.

The fire happened on East Mitchell Avenue in North Avondale on Saturday afternoon.

Police said a passer-by's quick action made it possible to save the four people.

"We seen smoke barreling from the top of that building. I grabbed my cell phone and called 911. I could hear little kids calling for help, and I ran up there and snatched 'em out of that house as fast as I could," said Alen Britt, who was able to save the children from the fire.

Britt is no stranger to fire, having spent two years in the hospital after being trapped in a fire in 1994, she said. Firefighters said it appeared the fire started in the basement and moved up through the walls.
