FREDERICK, MD - A chlorine leak at a local water plant has forced many Frederick County residents inside Thursday.

Frederick County emergency crews say the area is safe now and they're in the process of letting all of the 175 residents affected know it's ok to come outside again.

The leak occurred around 8:20 a.m. Thursday when workers at Frederick's Waste Water Treatment Plant were installing a one-ton cyllinder at the plant.

Officials aren't sure what caused the leak or how much chlorine leaked out, but say the chlorine did not get far off the property.

Crews were able to contain the leak around 10:30 a.m. and by 11:20 residents were given the all clear sign to leave their houses.
