A Hart County firefighter is in the University of Louisville Hospital with severe burns.

Linwood volunteer fire chief, 56-year-old Danny Pippin suffered first and second-degree burns while fighting a grass fire Wednesday, March 7, 2007, on Highway 357 in Hart County.

One of the firefighters on the scene said the fire moved so fast, it took them all by surprise.

"We had run out of water and I had went to get the tanker. When I turned back around to look, it was completely engulfed in flames. You couldn't see the truck the chief or nothing," Linwood fire fighter, Denny Shelton said.

Several different departments were called to fight the fire. Michael Rosa, one of the fire fighters, said it took about seven hours to get the fire completely under control.

A family friend said Pippin is recovering and should be out of the hospital in a few days.
