Two fires sparked within minutes of each other Monday in the same area where more than three dozen other fires have burned in the past month, NBC 7/39 reported.
Fire officials were called to the San Luis Rey River bed west of the Oceanside Airport just after 8 p.m. and found two separate fires burning.
Thirty firefighters from several nearby agencies worked to contain the blaze that scorched about three acres.
Oceanside fire officials said since mid-January there have been 38 separate fires in the riverbed.
Oceanside police were also on scene to investigate the blazes. Fire officials said there is a large transient population in the area. Investigators said they dont beleive the fires are accidental.
Police said they have received some tips from the public about who may be setting the fires and are still searching for leads.
