Houston Blaze Leaves Dozens Homeless

The 2-alarm blaze destroyed a Texas apartment building.

Dozens of families lost their homes in a fire that destroyed an apartment building, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday.

The building at the Park Houston Apartments in the 11900 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard near Fairgreen Lane was demolished after the two-alarm blaze broke out on Wednesday afternoon.

The American Red Cross assisted families that lost all of their possessions in the fire.

Some residents said they are now worried because there are locked gates in some of the breezeways.

"If there's a fire, you can't get out," one resident said.

Houston Fire Department officials said they plan to take a close look at those gates.

"What we want to do is look at the overall values that we can identify and make sure people are totally safe," Assistant Chief Rick Flannagan said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
