Two firefighters were hurt early Monday morning while battling a fire at a home on Indianapolis' north side. The injuries were described as slight, but one of the firefighters was taken to a hospital. All of the occupants of the home in the 2900 block of North Washington Boulevard got out unharmed shortly after the fire began at 3 a.m. Fire investigators determined that a space heater caused the blaze, which ignited when an unidentified fabric came into contact with it. A child sleeping in the room woke up and alerted other family members. There were no working smoke detectors in the house, according to fire investigators.
