Fire erupts at an apartment complex on Orchard Street in downtown Weirton around 9 p.m.
Crews blocked off the streets and continue to battle the flames. Residents in that area said this is the worst fire they've ever seen.
I'm telling you man, this is scary. The way it spread so quickly like thatand then I got neighbors that live there. The thought that they might be in there is scary and sad," said Yevette Leavell.
Flames ripped through the apartment complex, as neighbors stood outside in awe.
"That whole complex is going to go any minute now, it's really bad back there now," said nearby business owner Bob Diangelo.
Diangelo owns the business right behind the burning building. He and his wife Becky rushed down to rescue their cats from inside.
"From having the business here, we know a few of them that live in there so we were worried about them too, said Becky Diangelo.
So far authorities have not been able to confirm whether everyone got out safe, and say they might not know for a whiledepending on when they can get the blaze under control, and eventually out.
Fighting the massive flames is obviously a tough task for the firemen. Marlena McCart's boyfriend is one of them men fighting the blaze.
"This is one of the worst I've seen him be at. It really puts me on edge, I'm really nervous and scared for all of them up there," said McCart.
The flames can be seen for miles, and thick heavy smoke fills the entire surrounding area. There is still now word yet on what caused the building to catch fire.
