April 15, 2007
There were no injuries.

Police arrested a Bethany College student in connection with a Wednesday dorm fire at Bethany College. There were no injuries.

Christopher Bryan Hughes, 19, is in jail and charged with first degree arson. Police said Hughes is originally from Silver Spring, Md.

Some Bethany College students heard the news for the first time Saturday night.

I was shocked, because thats not a Bethany student, you know, thats not expected of them, said Bethany College senior Alejandra Viveros.

Viveros said whether or not Hughes started the fire, she wants to get on with her school year.

The school needs to move forward and hopefully we can get through this and hope for the best.

School President Buck Smith said the students who were displaced will not be able to move back into Harlan Hall for the rest of the semester.
