A house fire on the city's Northeast Side early Monday caused $135,000 in damage and claimed the life of five dogs.
When firefighters arrived at a home in the 5900 block of Catalina Sunrise at 1 a.m., they found heavy smoke billowing and flames shooting out of the two-story home.
While firefighters were battling the blaze, the owners of the home arrived to find their home engulfed in flames.
One of the homeowners then told firefighters there were seven dogs inside her residence and she wanted them to rescue them.
In an attempt to rescue her dogs, the woman ran toward the home. Police, though, had to physically restrain the woman and placed her in handcuffs.
Firefighters were able to save two of the dogs.
A cause is under investigation.
