A 12-year old boy is dead and several others are injured in a house fire in the 400 block of Fuller near Wealthy.
The fire department arrived at the house shortly before 4:00 a.m. Friday morning. They found the house fully involved, with flames having moved through the house's walls and shooting through the roof. Despite the severity of the fire, firefighters entered the house in an effort to save the boy.
One Grand Rapids firefighter was injured in that attempt. That firefighter fell through the floor that collapsed below him. It is believed that he was able to catch himself and suffered injury to his ribs. He is currently being treated at a local hospital.
There were seven people inside the house at the time the fire broke out. A fire investigator on the scene tells 24 Hour News 8 that four people from the boys family were also sent to a local hospital. Two of those suffered burns in the fire, and two received other injuries.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. It is not known if there were any smoke detectors in the home. Investigators will be looking in to that as soon as the flames are out.
