MARGATE, Fla. (AP) -- A security guard died in a fast-moving blaze that destroyed his 22-unit apartment building after he fired shots into his ex-girlfriend's apartment and barricaded himself in his own apartment, investigators believe.

The body of a man fitting the description of Dan Magno, 40, was found in his apartment after the fire was put out Sunday, displacing about 100 residents.

Magno fired 12 rounds into a window at the woman's apartment, police said. No one was injured in the shooting. Magno lived in the same complex where he had worked for 12 years and took refuge in his unit one floor up.

Police were called after the shooting, and a Broward sheriff's SWAT team was brought in. The sheriff's office said the man failed to respond to a negotiator who tried calling on the phone and using a megaphone.

Deputies fired rubber bullets into his apartment 2
