A man died in a fire that apparently began when a portable heater ignited nearby materials in his unit in a fourplex in the Lake City neighborhood, authorities said.
SEATTLE (AP) -- A man died in a fire that apparently began when a portable heater ignited nearby materials in his unit in a fourplex in the Lake City neighborhood, authorities said.

Michael Thomas Dennistoun, 47, was identified Sunday as the victim. He was pronounced dead at the scene after the smoky fire was extinguished late Friday night. Structural damage was estimated at $20,000.

``We did attempt CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), but it wasn't successful,'' Fire Department spokeswoman Helen Fitzpatrick said.
