Sanibel, FL -- Shortly after 9:40 a.m., the call crackled over the radio. Five people were involved in a construction accident on the barge anchored off the second span of the Sanibel Causeway.

Three men were injured in the water, with one hurt on deck. The fifth was trapped unconscious in a hole in the middle of the barge. Firefighters from Sanibel and Iona-McGregor soon responded on boats and a personal watercraft.

Luckily, Wednesday's rescue was no emergency.

It was training for the firefighters in case anything ever happened on the barge, which is expected to be there while workers replace the bridges.

"We wanted to be ready and be able to address emergency situations," said Sanibel Fire Chief Richard Dickerson.

Two Sanibel firefighters zipped along in a personal watercraft to rescue the three men
