A suspended Roxbury fire chief yesterday admitted using his fire company's funds to pay $775 in personal expenses, and the offense has cost him the chance to ever fight another fire.

Ray Grenot Jr., 27, who at 17 became a firefighter like his father, pleaded guilty to official misconduct in Superior Court in Morristown. Under his plea deal, the charge will be dismissed once he completes two years in a pretrial intervention program, but he had to agree never to hold another public position of any kind.

Morris County Assistant Prosecutor John Redden said his office's intention was to prevent Grenot from ever being "in a position where he would be entrusted with any public money or other public resources."
