HONG KONG (AP) -- Decked out in full firefighter gear and arriving on a fire patrol buggy, Jackie Chan threw his name behind the next World Firefighters Games in Hong Kong.
Chan was named an ambassador for next February's games, which will pit firefighters from around the world against each other in sports events.
''A lot of people call me a hero,'' the 51-year-old action film star said Tuesday. ''Well, (firefighters) are real heroes; they are nameless heroes.''
Chan, whose Hollywood films include the ''Rush Hour'' movies, ''The Medallion'' and ''Shanghai Knights,'' said he hopes to make a movie about firefighters.
''I have had the script for 20 years,'' he said. ''It is a dream of mine to make this film; if I do not make it, I will regret it.''
The games in Hong Kong will be the ninth edition of the event, which started in 1990.
