(New York-WABC, September 7, 2004 ) -- A busy day for firefighters as they battled not one, but several manhole fires.

A total of three-manholes blew in front of a building on Vestry street about noon.

Smoke poured from the holes in the ground, shutting down the street.

As a precaution, authorities also evacuated one building when high-levels of carbon monoxide were detected.
