Fire Engulfs Wisconsin Waste Facility

An overnight fire at Waste Management's Fond du Lac facility caused quite a bit of damage. Estimates aren't in yet, but when firefighters arrived around 12:30 Saturday morning, the building was completely engulfed.

Officials say the fire started in a building used to store cardboard, but they aren't sure what started it.

"With something of this scope, it could be just about anything because the building was pretty full. Somebody could have emptied their grill in it or whatever, and it ends up in the building. It's going to be pretty tough to tell," says Battalion Chief Peter Hahn with the Fond du Lac Fire Department.

The Fond du Lac facility provides garbage and recyclables pickup for several communities in southeastern Wisconsin. Officials say the trucks received some heat damage.
