Southside firefighters are looking into a mysterious blaze that destroyed several cars overnight. About 2:30am this morning, someone spotted flames coming from a wrecking yard on Highway 17 and Silk Hope Road. When firefighters arrived, they could see heavy smoke and flames, but were locked out of the business.
They had to use bolt cutters to break locks to get past electrified fences carrying 7,000 volts. Once inside, they found three cars engulfed in flames.
It took almost an hour to get the fires out, leaving all of the vehicles destroyed. Now they're trying to figure out if the fire was accidental or an act of arson.
