A 16-year-old Hartford boy was arrested Wednesday after he admitted he took a Hartford fire truck for a drive and wrecked it, according to police.
Hartford Police Chief Tommy Hoopengarner said he arrested the suspect, whose name was not released because of his age, on suspicion of commercial burglary and theft of property. The suspect was arrested at Hartford High School and booked into the Sebastian County Juvenile Detention Center.
The suspect went to the office of his school counselor Wednesday afternoon and said he wanted to confess to the crime, Hoopengarner said. School officials then called police.
The vehicle, a 1986 Chevrolet 1-ton brush truck, was taken from the Hartford Fire Station in the early morning hours Saturday and later found in a ditch about a mile away. It received about $1,900 damage, Fire Chief Gary Radley said.
