HENDERSON, La. (AP) -- A 11-vehicle crash on an interstate bridge left five people dead and seven injured Sunday, state police said.

Traffic had been backed up for an earlier crash when the pileup occurred over the Atchafalaya Basin on Interstate 10 near Henderson in southern Louisiana.

One tractor-trailer was among the vehicles involved, state police Sgt. Johnny Bordelon said. ``Some had minor damage and others were badly on fire,'' he said.

State police shut down the interstate eastbound to Baton Rouge for hours after the 5:15 p.m. crash.
