Alabama Company Recalls Sparklers

WASHINGTON (AP) _ An Alabama company is recalling about 72,000 boxes of bamboo stick sparklers because the handles can catch fire and disintegrate, posing a risk of burns.

Fireworks of Alabama Inc., based in Adamsville, Ala., has not received any injury reports, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday.

The recalled sparklers, about 7-inches long, were sold in packs of six in multicolored cardboard boxes bearing the label ``LB-N011-7.'' Variety stores sold them in the South from June to December 2002 for about $2.

The government advises consumers to stop using the sparklers and return them to the store for a refund. For more information, consumers can call the company at 1-800-289-5569, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST.
