A firefighter was injured battling a small fire in the Lakeview neighborhood Thursday morning, officials said.
The fire broke out in the two-story brick building in the 1600 block of West Irving Park Road around 4 a.m., according to the Chicago Fire Department.
The firefighter suffered a shoulder injury and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Richard Rosado.
Firefighters used four hose lines to fight the blaze, which was under control by 5:10 a.m., Rosado said.
Photos from the scene show the building includes a restaurant on its first floor that was heavily damaged in the blaze, and Rosado said fire officials called Health Department workers to the scene to inspect, likely because of the restaurant.
There was no immediate word on whether anyone was displaced by the fire. The Department of Human Services, which usually responds to any fires in which residents are displaced, was not called to the scene, Rosado said.
