July 06--OGDEN -- Fire crews battled two structure fires almost next door to each other at two different times Friday morning.
The second fire displaced residents in three apartments and caused about $10,000 in damage, said Ogden Fire Deputy Chief Eric Bauman.
The first fire did not displace any residents but caused $8,000 in damage to a garage and a vehicle.
Fire investigators do not believe the two fires are related, Bauman said, but investigations into the cause of both fires is still ongoing.
Investigators say they have ruled out fireworks.
The first fire was reported at 5:21 a.m. at 560 27th St. in an unattached garage.
When crews arrived, the garage was engulfed and there was concern about the buildings on each side of the structure. A power line was also down and arcing on the garage.
The crews put out the fire and protected the buildings.
An adjacent building suffered minor damage to shingles on its roof from the heat and proximity of the fire. A vehicle was damaged in the fire as well.
The second fire was reported at 9:45 a.m. at 547 27th St. at a building with three apartments. All the apartments had been evacuated before fire crews arrived. There were no injuries.
Upon investigation, crews found the fire started in a utility room on the main floor. Residents from all three apartments will be displaced while the building undergoes repairs.
The Ogden and Roy fire departments responded with 17 firefighters.
