Neb. Fire Truck, Police Car Collide

Dec. 27, 2014

A police officer was injured early Friday when a police car and fire truck collided.

According to KETV.com, both units were responding to the same fire.

The police car made a right onto Carter Boulevard from 16th Street and made a half U-turn to block traffic for the fire truck, which the officer believed was going to make a left.

Engine 22 made a right turn and hit the driver's side of the police vehicle. The police car struck a vehicle before crashing into two fences.

According to the accident report, Engine 22 was approaching the cruiser from behind with its emergency lights activated. The cruiser turned right onto Carter Boulevard, then pulled directly in front of the fire engine, resulting in a collision.

The police officer suffered minor injuries and was evaluated at Nebraska Medical Center. No firefighters were hurt.

Officials said dash cam footage showed the police officer coming to a stop, and then a horn blast is heard before the collision.
